If you want to save money on furniture, consider alternatives to traditional shopping. Goodwill stores sometimes have pieces. Check out yard and garage sales. Also peruse Craiglist or local Freecycle options. Any community of some size has a secondary market of furniture not on showroom floors. Even consider going to storage locker auctions. If you see a piece you like, talk to the winning bidder for that locker.
Decide what material you want before you start looking. If you only want oak tables, for instance, that will stop you from wasting time looking at other materials which you wont need. If you want a candle chandelier, know that before you start looking so you get what you want. If you walk into a store without a goal, youll feel much more uncertain.
If you have antique furniture, do not repair them the same way you do your other furniture. Using fasteners, adhesives, finishes, and polishes can negatively affect both the current and future values of the pieces. Some of these products can dramatically discolor or completely alter the appearance of the pieces.
Furniture is expensive a lot of times. This is why you should look at buying furniture used. You can find used furniture by searching your local papers classified ads, yard sales and thrift stores. You can always reupholster pieces if need be. This will save you tons of money.
